Larry Elworth

In more than 35 years in public service and agriculture, Larry has served as a senior advisor at the Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of Agriculture and the White House Domestic Policy Council, combining extensive senior Executive Branch policy experience with agricultural management and production knowledge. His portfolio has included a broad range of environmental and agricultural issues: pesticide regulation and legislation, Clean Water Act implementation, renewable fuels policy, the intersection of the Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, Clean Air Act and other environmental statutes with agriculture, farm and rural policy, agriculture conservation policy, organization of large scale agricultural projects, as well as significant experience in strategic policy development and implementation. As founder and Executive Director of the non-profit: Center for Agricultural Partnerships, he worked with farmers and organizations in 15 states to implement environmentally and economically sound practices on more than 500,000 acres. His agricultural background includes managing orchard and vineyard operations for 15 years and serving as head of the check-off program for apple growers in Pennsylvania.

Watersheds: Completed study for USDA/NRCS: The Way things work: How effective watershed projects are organized and what we can do to improve public and private sector watershed programs; Conducted assessment of the Upper Middle River livestock exclusion program for Agua Fund; Facilitated roundtable discussion to assess technical assistance capacity in Chesapeake Bay Regions; Collaborated with Soil and Water Conservation Society and Iowa State University in the establishment of a Watershed Academy for watershed coordinators in Iowa.
Sustainability: Collaborated with Bayard Ridge Group to assess sustainability environment for National Corn Growers Association; Facilitated development of sustainability program for National Council of Farmer Cooperatives; Conducted assessment and developed guidance for Field to Market implementation programs; Currently conducting landscape assessment for Sustainable Agriculture Resource Center.
Regulatory: Facilitated workshop on resistance management for Iowa State University and Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship; supported organization of Collaborative Food Safety Forum on Food Safety Modernization Act implementation.
