Results of the Self-Selection Process for
Nonprofit Civil Society Observers on the CIFs
CIF Home
RESOLVE is pleased to announce that the
self-selection process for nonprofit civil
society observers on the Climate Investment Fund
(CIF) committees is complete, and the
list of selected observers and alternates is
now available on the RESOLVE website. RESOLVE
would like to thank all the candidates and
nonprofit civil society participants, who
contributed to a robust selection process for
civil society observers on the CIFs. We would
also like to express our great appreciation to
the members of our
Advisory Committee for volunteering their
time in the service of the civil society
community in order to ensure that the selected
observers are widely respected, legitimate, and
chosen through a transparent and open process.
There were multiple steps to the self-selection
process, which RESOLVE designed in consultation
with nonprofit civil society members and our
Advisory Committee. The following steps were
intended to account for the input from nonprofit
civil society members and to ensure that
criteria important to civil society members were
met:
- RESOLVE invited applications for the
observer seats from members of nonprofit civil
society organizations, networks, and
communities.
- The Advisory Committee and RESOLVE developed
a shortlist of candidates based on the
criteria for individual candidates.
- RESOLVE posted the shortlist of candidates
and widely circulated an announcement inviting
nonprofit civil society members to vote on
candidates from their region.
- After removing ineligible votes (i.e., those
from voters without a nonprofit civil society
affiliation), RESOLVE and the Advisory Committee
used the results of the vote as one important
piece of input, along with the
criteria for achieving balance, for
producing a final list of observers and
alternates. In the interest of ensuring balance
and broad representation, the Advisory Committee
requested that those organizations or candidates
who had won more than one seat choose between
the seats.
In addition to the final list of observers and
alternates, the
results of the voting process are now
available.
RESOLVE transmitted the final list of observers
and alternates to the CIF Administrative Unit on
August 7th. Based on our consultations with
civil society members and the Advisory
Committee, we also developed
several
recommendations on observer roles and
responsibilities.
The next CIF meetings will be held in
Washington, DC the week of October 26th, 2009.
