Results of Civil Society Observer Self-Selection
Process for the FIP and SREP Subcommittees
CIF Home
The self-selection process for the civil society
observer seats was designed by RESOLVE and the
Advisory Committee
for the first self-selection process, which took
place from April – August 2009. It was designed
as a multi-step process that would incorporate
these considerations: ensuring a well-qualified
slate of observers with expertise relevant to
their respective committees; inviting the input
of civil society members; and fulfilling the
criteria for observers developed in
consultation with members of the civil society
community.
The steps in the self-selection process were the
following:
- Consulting members of the civil society
community and recruiting an Advisory Committee
- Inviting applications for the observer seats
- Creating a shortlist of applicants in
consultation with the Advisory Committee
- Inviting members of nonprofit civil society
to vote on the shortlisted candidates
- Making final selections based on the voting
results and the balance criteria in consultation
with the Advisory Committee
After the voting closed for the observer seats
on the Forest Investment Program (FIP) and the
Scaling Up Renewable Energy Program in Low
Income Countries (SREP) Subcommittees on January
10, 2010, the
Advisory Committee considered 1) the results
of the voting and 2) the criteria for achieving
balance when producing a final list of
observers. The Advisory Committee also selects
the alternates from the shortlist; the balance
criteria often weigh more heavily in those
decisions in order to ensure the final slate of
selected observers and alternates fulfills the
criteria. The Advisory Committee aimed to select
a group that would be geographically diverse,
gender-balanced, bring different perspectives on
forestry and renewable energy issues, and
represent communities as well as international
and national organizations.
Below are the final selected candidates who will
now serve as observers to the Climate Investment
Fund committees.

The RESOLVE team is extremely appreciative of
everyone who submitted applications, stood as
candidates, cast votes, and those who will serve
as observers. This process has shown us what a
strong and committed movement exists for
improving the lives of those impacted by the
effects of climate change.
We now encourage members of the civil society
community to establish contact with the
observers from your region and continue taking
an active role in conveying your interests and
needs to them so that they may represent you
effectively on the committees.
At RESOLVE we are committed to continually
improving our processes; if you have suggestions
or comments on the civil society self-selection
process, please feel free to contact us at
