On April 11 and 12 of 2012, EICC and GeSI held the Conflict Minerals Supply Chain Workshop IX in Philadelphia, PA. More than 150 participants from industry, governments, and civil society attended from around the world to share their knowledge on developing conflict-free supply chains.
Many people took Wednesday and Friday morning to visit the Global Advanced Metals smelter in Boyertown, PA. On Day One we had the priveledge of learning from an extraordinary group of speakers about the the activities of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR), OECD Due Diligence Guidance, the Conlflict Free Smelter Program, the Conflict Minerals Reporting Template and Dashboard, and the Public-Prive Alliance for Responsible Minerals Trade.
Day Two kicked-off with our keynote speaker, Ambassador Walkley, as he shared his insights on the challenges and opportunities in the Great Lakes Region of Africa. After the Ambassador’s speech, participants attended four different workshop-style Breakout Sessions where they shared ideas and insights on the Conflict Free Smelter/Refiner Program, Conflict Minerals Reporting Template and Dashboard and Other Tools, In-Region Traceability and Certifications Mechanisms, and Downstream Due Diligence Beyond the Template and Dashboard.
Speakers and Breakout Session leaders packed a tremendous amount of effort into a two-day workshop. We are providing all of the conference materials, presentations, and handouts below, in order to facilitate the continuing conversation on conflict-free supply chains. The EICC and GeSI Conflict Minerals Supply Chain Workshop X will be on September 17th and 18th, 2012 in Berlin.
